The Alumni is referred to as UHPPTA (Uitenhage High Past Pupils and Teachers Association). It was established in 2010. It is a registered NPO (Non-Profit Organisation), with a valid Tax Clearance Certificate from the South African Revenue Services (SARS). UHPPTA membership is open to all individuals who spent at least one (1) calendar year as pupil or teacher at the school. However, all bona fide members of the community passionate about the school and its values are warmly welcomed as part of the UHPPTA family.
Previous UHPPTA projects include the Buy-a-Bench Project and the upgrading of ablution facilities at the school. Since its inception, the core focus area of UHPPTA’s activities has revolved – and still revolves – around the granting of bursaries to deserving, financially-needy learners. To this end, the organisation has already disbursed an amount in excess of R165 000 to Matriculants who have proceeded to embark on tertiary studies, as well as to the junior top achievers still at school. However, its flagship project is the dream of erecting a much-needed school hall. The total cost of this enormous project is estimated to be between R10m and R12m.
The current Chairperson of UHPPTA is Ms Angelona Williams, who can be contacted on +27 832369609 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit the UHPPTA Uitenhage Facebook page for more details. The next UHPPTA event is its Annual Gala Dinner & Dance on Saturday, 24 September 2016 at the VW People Pavilion. The keynote speaker is former learner, Prof Cecil Arnolds. A limited number of tickets – at R200 per person – are still available.
