Grade 8 & 9 (GET PHASE):

A learner will be promoted only if he/she satisfies the following requirements:

A level 4 (50%) in the Home Language and
A level 3 (40%) in the other languages
A level 3 (40%) in Mathematics;
Level 3’s (40%) in any THREE other subjects
Level 2’s (30%) in any TWO other subjects
May only have ONE level 1

*Immigrant learners may be exempted from achieving one official language, provided they obtain at least a level 2 in all three (3) remaining subjects.

A learner may only be retained ONCE in the Senior Phase.

GRADE 10 & 11 (FET PHASE)

A learner must achieve:

A level 3 (40%) in ANY 3 subjects, of which one must be HOME LANGUAGE.
A level 2 (30%) in ANY 3 subjects.
May achieve a level 1 any 1 subject*
*in this case the submission of complete and moderate learner evidence of assessment tasks is required.

Learners should only be progressed if they satisfy the following criteria:

a.) The learners must have hailed to satisfy the promotion requirements of either Grade 10 or Grade 11, and repeated either Grade 10 and Grade 11.

b.) The learner must have passed the Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) and any other three (3) of the seven (7) subjects offered (Life Orientation Included).  If the Home Language is the LOLT, then only for the purpose of this criteria, a 30% mark will be accepted.

c.) The learner must have attended school on a regular basis.  Absenteeism in excess of 20 days without a valid reason, disqualify the learner from being progressed.

d.) The learner must have complied with the prescribed School-based Assessment (SBA) requirements for the academic year.

THE LEARNER MUST SATISFY ALL THE ABOVE CRITERIA TO BE PROGRESSED TO THE NEXT GRADE.
